A Homemade Life

I started reading A Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg, upon seeing it on Tea Loves Honey.  The book contains recipes mingled with personal stories and memoires from Molly's life.  (She also has a blog, Orangette.)  Her writing style draws you in, and I'm looking forward to evenings curled up on the couch with the book and a warm cup of tea.

Andersonville

One thing I love about Chicago is how many different neighborhoods there are, each with its distinct personality and style.  Andersonville contains our favorite pizza and dessert places, and lots of vintage goodies, which doesn't hurt.

Barnes Family

I met up with these guys on a sweltering hot afternoon at Palmer Square in Logan Square.  Not only are they a good looking bunch, but they made me feel at ease, and I enjoyed hanging out with them at the park.  Take a look...

Lurie Garden

One of my favorite spots in the city, this beautiful garden is located behind the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, where free outdoor concerts are held all summer long in the city.  Last year I spent many evenings enjoying dinner and wine with friends while listening to great music at the pavilion.  I'm really going to miss doing that.

I love how the garden is landscaped, with clean lines and wooden walkways.  I had a session with a couple last weekend here, so you'll get to see more then.  For now, here are some shots of the garden at dusk.

Steve, Ann & Ava

When I arrived at Ann and Steve's, they led me through their home and into the backyard.  And I entered a world of lush greenery and serenity.  They have created such a great space with their garden and decor - I loved it.  I hope one day I can have a space like this, and in my garden I too will plant lilacs and peonies.  Thank you for inviting me into your home...

art institute

I'm going to miss the Art Institute of Chicago.  They have a great impressionist collection as well as a modern wing whose architecture reminds me a bit of the Getty in LA.

great lake pizza

With the impending move I've been trying to document as much of Chicago as possible on film before taking off.  While Chicago is known for its deep dish pizza, Great Lake has become hubby and my favorite pizza joint.  Great Lake serves thin crust pizza and has a delectable farmer's market salad.  It seats about 15 people at a time, and is only open half the week, so get there early to avoid the wait.

Sherman Family

I met the Shermans on a nice Saturday morning a couple of weeks ago at their beautiful home.  They have the cutest boys, and I learned that day what a balloon shooter was.  Congratulations to you on the newest member of your family, and thanks for a great time.  I just want you to know I think your boys are awesome!

News

I have some news: I'm moving to Columbus, Ohio!  After 1.5 wonderful years in Chicago, we now prepare to bid farewell to the windy city.  I could not have asked for more in the last 17 months here.  I fell in love with Chicago pretty much from day one.  Hubs and I spent our first years of marriage here, it was the first place I lived outside of LA, and where we met some amazing friends, so I will always remember Chicago with fondness.

We're moving next month, and then we're taking off to Asia for a month to celebrate hubs finishing school, before he starts his new job in August.

Last week I came across an awesome city guide to Columbus on Design Sponge, written by Eva of Sycamore Street Press.  It's getting me excited for new discoveries in my soon-to-be home.  If you are familiar with Columbus, I welcome any recommendations you may have, and I look forward to meeting all of you Columbusites soon.
